The Overeem Very Old Port Casks Australian Single Malt Whisky is a Club-exclusive release celebrating Overeem’s 20th Anniversary. Fully matured in a tiny parcel of 50+ year old ex-Barossa Valley Port casks, this Tasmanian single malt showcases the rich fortified wine influence that has long defined the Overeem house style.
These historic South Australian Tawny Port casks impart layers of fruit, spice and dark sweetness into Overeem’s multi-award-winning single malt spirit. Bottled without chill filtration at 49.8% ABV, the whisky displays deep natural colour and a richly textured flavour profile shaped by decades-seasoned casks.
This limited small batch bottling highlights the connection between Tasmania’s pioneering single malt whisky scene and Australia’s historic fortified wine traditions.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Soaked raisins, milk chocolate caramel, hint of leather and dark chocolate.
Palate: Vanilla custard and sweet summer fruits, festive spices of cloves and cinnamon, stewed orchard fruits and old oak.
Finish: Long and warming with lingering spice, dried fruit and oak.
About the Distillery
Overeem Distillery is one of the pioneering producers of Tasmanian single malt whisky. Founded in 2007 by Casey Overeem in Huntingfield, Tasmania, the distillery is known for its small-scale production and careful maturation in high-quality oak casks. Overeem has developed a reputation for richly flavoured whiskies that showcase the influence of fortified wine casks, particularly Australian port-style barrels.
