Overview
Originally begun as a small-production “hobby wine”, Bass Phillip Gewurztraminer has developed into a distinctive Australian interpretation of the variety. Produced in very limited quantities, the 2024 release combines pronounced floral and fruit aromatics with freshness, depth, natural acidity and mineral character. The palate is long and balanced, with a texture that can become richer and more chewy with bottle age.
Vineyard
Fruit comes from a small plot in Bass Phillip’s Leongatha vineyard, planted at approximately 9,000 vines per hectare and cropping at around 1 tonne per acre. The low-yielding, close-planted vineyard provides the foundation for a concentrated yet gentle style, retaining freshness and pronounced natural acidity.
Winemaking
The wine is often fermented in oak before spending approximately 12 months in stainless steel, an approach designed to retain varietal fragrance and freshness while developing texture and depth.
