Overview
The wine that started Down the Rabbit Hole, 'The Secret Sign' Shiraz is a bold yet beautifully balanced expression of McLaren Vale. Made from certified organic vineyards across the region, the 2023 vintage brings together rich dark fruit, savoury spice, fine-grained tannins and carefully integrated French oak, finishing long, smooth and silky.
Vineyard
The Shiraz is sourced from certified organic vineyards across McLaren Vale, including the alluvial clay soils of the Willunga foothills and the sandy, elevated soils of Blewitt Springs. Vine age ranges from 25 to 37 years, with the 2023 fruit harvested from mid-March through to early April.
Winemaking
The wine was matured for 16 months in French oak. The oak regime comprised 40% seasoned 4,500L French oak foudre, with the balance in 300L hogsheads comprising 10% new and 50% seasoned French oak.
Producer Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep red with purple hues.
Aroma: Bright blackberry and dark cherry lead the nose, layered with hints of plum, kalamata olives, cocoa, cashews and a savoury lift of spice.
Palate: Juicy dark fruit is framed by fine grained tannins and gently integrated oak, adding texture without weight. Fresh acidity keeps the palate lively, finishing clean and balanced with restrained power and length.
