The 2022 Sons of Eden Romulus Shiraz is the flagship Shiraz from Sons of Eden, showcasing the depth, complexity, and elegance of premium Barossa Valley fruit. Named after the legendary founder of Rome, Romulus represents the pinnacle of the estate’s Shiraz portfolio, crafted from a selection of exceptional old-vine vineyards across the Barossa.
The 2022 vintage delivered fruit of outstanding purity and balance, with moderate growing conditions allowing for even ripening, excellent flavour concentration, and refined tannin development. Sourced from mature low-yielding vineyards in both the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley, the wine combines the richness of the valley floor with the aromatic lift and structure of higher-elevation sites.
In the winery, fruit was hand-selected and fermented in small batches to preserve vineyard character and varietal expression. The wine was matured in premium French oak barrels, including a proportion of new oak, providing subtle spice, texture, and complexity while maintaining balance and fruit purity.
The wine reveals an intensely perfumed bouquet of blackberry, blueberry, and dark plum, layered with notes of black pepper, liquorice, dark chocolate, star anise, and subtle floral lift. The palate is full-bodied yet beautifully poised, offering concentrated dark fruit, fine-grained tannins, vibrant natural acidity, and a long, savoury finish. Richness is balanced by freshness and precision, giving the wine both immediate appeal and exceptional cellaring potential.
Approachable with extended decanting in its youth, the 2022 Romulus Shiraz will continue to evolve over the next 20–25+ years, developing further layers of spice, earth, and tertiary complexity.
