Overview
A single-vineyard Hunter Valley Shiraz from Rosehill, one of Mount Pleasant's historic Pokolbin sites. First planted to Shiraz by Maurice O'Shea in 1946, Rosehill combines elevated terrain, a north-easterly aspect and rich volcanic loam. The 2021 release received 95 points from The Wine Advocate and a Gold Medal at the London Wine Competition.
Vineyard
Maurice O'Shea acquired Rosehill in 1945 after recognising similarities in elevation and soil structure to the Old Hill and Old Paddock vineyards. Rosehill was planted to Shiraz in 1946 and expanded in 1965 under chief winemaker Brian Walsh. Located at Pokolbin in the Lower Hunter Valley, the vineyard sits at 60–100 metres elevation on rich volcanic loam. The site is predominantly planted east-west, with some north-south rows following the contours to maximise sunlight penetration.

“I always like this cuvee, from a majestic site imparting more transparent and fragrant wines than its siblings. Peony, violet, terracotta and succulent red cherry kirsch, splayed taut across a bow of tannins, sinuous and etched across the gums. The finish, sappy, detailed and of good length. Drink or hold.”

Mount Pleasant was established in Pokolbin in 1921 by Maurice O'Shea, one of the defining figures of Australian wine. The Hunter Valley estate is particularly renowned for Shiraz and Semillon and holds an important collection of historic vineyards, including Old Hill, Old Paddock, Lovedale and Rosehill.
