The 2019 Tolpuddle Vineyard Chardonnay is one of Australia’s benchmark cool-climate Chardonnays, crafted from the celebrated single vineyard in Tasmania’s Coal River Valley. Produced by Tolpuddle Vineyard, this wine is renowned for its purity, mineral precision, and seamless balance between power and elegance.
The 2019 vintage in Tasmania delivered exceptional growing conditions, allowing for slow ripening and outstanding flavour development while preserving vibrant natural acidity. The cool maritime climate and low-yielding vineyard contribute to the wine’s trademark tension, finesse, and crystalline fruit profile.
In the winery, fruit was hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed before fermentation in French oak barrels, including a restrained proportion of new oak. Extended lees maturation added texture and complexity while preserving freshness and vineyard transparency.
The wine opens with refined aromas of white peach, nectarine, grapefruit, and lemon curd, layered with notes of struck flint, cashew, subtle oak spice, and saline minerality. The palate is tightly structured yet beautifully textured, combining concentrated citrus and stone fruit with vibrant acidity and a long, mineral-driven finish.
Despite its immediate appeal, the 2019 Tolpuddle Vineyard Chardonnay possesses outstanding ageing potential and will continue to evolve gracefully over 10–15+ years, developing additional savoury and nutty complexity with time.
