Product Description

Overview

Awarded the Australian Sparkling Trophy at the 2026 International Wine Challenge, 98 points by The Real Review and 96 points by Halliday Wine Companion, the 2017 House of Arras Grand Vintage is one of Australia’s most distinguished vintage sparkling wines.

Made from 69% Chardonnay and 31% Pinot Noir, it spent six years in tirage. Extended lees maturation has created remarkable richness, complexity and creamy texture, while a very low dosage preserves its mineral freshness, precise acidity and elegant Brut Nature style.

House of Arras

Since 1995, House of Arras and pioneering Chief Winemaker Ed Carr have helped redefine the standard of Australian sparkling wine. Premium Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are sourced from Tasmania’s finest cool-climate vineyards and crafted using traditional-method winemaking with extended maturation on lees.

House of Arras is internationally recognised for sparkling wines of exceptional precision, purity, creamy effervescence and distinctive Tasmanian character.

Appearance

Light to medium straw with a green-gold edge and a very fine, persistent bead.

Bouquet

Fresh grapefruit and lemon are joined by oyster shell, roasted almond, freshly baked brioche and a subtle earthy complexity.

Palate

A sparkling wine of impressive complexity, richness and tension. Lemon curd, honeycomb, nougat and crème brûlée build generous mid-palate volume, balanced by fine persistent effervescence and crisp acidity.

A delicate saline character enhances the wine’s elegant structure, while the low dosage highlights its mineral freshness. The finish is dry, harmonious and exceptionally long, with lingering citrus, toasted nuts and subtle savoury complexity.

Vineyard Provenance

Fruit was sourced from premium cool-climate vineyards across Tasmania’s Derwent Valley, East Coast, Coal River Valley, Pipers River and Tamar Valley.

Winemaking

Crafted from 69% Chardonnay and 31% Pinot Noir using the traditional method. Secondary fermentation took place in bottle, followed by six years of maturation on lees to develop a fine mousse and layered brioche, nougat and roasted-nut complexity.

A dosage of only 2.8 g/L preserves the wine’s purity, mineral definition and naturally fresh Brut Nature expression.

98 Points – Huon Hooke, The Real Review
A seriously smart sparkling wine, ageing slowly and gracefully.

96 Points – Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
Finely bubbled, with an expressive swell of grapefruit, lemon, apple and poached pear fruits.
