The 2016 Grosset Springvale Riesling is a benchmark Clare Valley Riesling from one of Australia's most acclaimed producers. Crafted by Grosset Wines, this single-vineyard wine captures the purity, intensity, and longevity that have made Grosset synonymous with world-class Australian Riesling.
Sourced exclusively from the historic Springvale Vineyard in the Clare Valley sub-region of Watervale, the vineyard is renowned for producing Riesling with exceptional aromatic expression, generosity of fruit, and distinctive mineral freshness. The site's red loam soils over limestone contribute both richness and precision, creating a style that is approachable in youth yet capable of extended ageing.
The outstanding 2016 vintage is widely regarded as one of the finest Clare Valley Riesling vintages of the past decade. Ideal growing conditions delivered fruit with extraordinary concentration, pristine flavour development, and vibrant natural acidity.
Produced using Grosset's meticulous low-intervention philosophy, the fruit was hand-selected, gently pressed, and cool fermented to preserve varietal purity and vineyard character. The result is a Riesling of remarkable precision and balance.
The bouquet is intensely aromatic, revealing layers of lime blossom, kaffir lime, lemon zest, green apple, and white flowers, complemented by subtle notes of jasmine, wet stone, and chalky minerality. The palate is concentrated and beautifully textured, combining vibrant citrus fruit with crystalline acidity and a long, mineral-driven finish. Despite its intensity, the wine remains elegant and effortlessly balanced.
Now with additional bottle age, the 2016 Springvale Riesling is beginning to reveal the early stages of mature Riesling complexity while retaining remarkable freshness and energy. Well-cellared bottles will continue to evolve beautifully for another 10–20 years.
