While the official founding by Hugh Anderson dates to 1784, the first licence to distil in the area was granted to Thomas Phillips in 1608.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBushmills is the only Irish distillery to use malted barley exclusively in all its whiskeys.
